Crans Montana Z

Crans Montana Z is owned by our partnership stable Springstal van Coenen. She is of Swiss origin, and was bought from Haras du Dommartin's sales at 8-years-old in 2025 by van Coenen. She came straight to us for training and competing.

Montana had started in some competitions in Switzerland, but was fairly green for her age. She has top Swiss-French pedigree: her father, Crans Sierre Z, is a top player nationally and internationally, as is his sireline up to Cornes du le Mini Z, who was a star in the French competition rings with good international results too. Montana herself has quality in her movement, but leaves room for improvement in making her way through the jumping course.

As a big-framed mare, Montana takes longer to warm up and can easily stay stiff in her maneuverability and gaits without proper stretching before jumping. Her canter is big and not that easy to collect. In indoor arenas she is more suitable for easier courses without too much speed and tight turns needed. In oudoor courses her level ups a bit in how difficult courses she is able to jump, since there's usually more room.
Montana's rideability is on the better side, despite her probable stiffness. She is not necessarily very sensitive and the rider needs to sometimes remind her to listen, but when she is on the aids Montana is a smooth ride. Her canter and trot are very easy and nice to sit on. Montana is a kind mare and wants to be friends with everybody. She always seems to have a good day, and if she's not having one that usually means something is wrong - stiffness in the back, for example, which is very common for her and requires regular massage treatments.
